PRESCRIPTION

Have you signed up for a library card yet? If not, do it this week!

Take a story walk around your neighborhood.  Make up a story to go with each house.

The same book every day?  It’s OK.  Children have favorite books too.

Let your child turn the pages.

Let your child interrupt. Interruptions show your child is engaged.

Snuggle with your child and a book.

Make reading part of your daily routine.

Get your baby talking. If your child makes a noise, respond. It may make no sense to you, but it’s communication.

Read out loud, every day. Any book.

Kids need laps, not apps.

Make books part of your everyday routine—just like brushing your teeth!

Reading aloud and talking together every day builds a strong foundation for learning!

Choose books about events in your child’s life such as starting preschool, going to the dentist, or getting a new pet.
